OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2015. The Prime Minister of Ukraine called upon the Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine along with European partners to make every effort to punish Gazprom for abuse of monopoly in the Ukrainian market. The Head of Government said this while representing Ukraine’s AMC Head Yurii Terentyev.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined that under the law the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appealed to the Antimonopoly Committee with a request to start antimonopoly investigation against the Russian gas monopolist OSJC Gazprom.

He thanked the AMC for the launching of the investigation, which was officially announced.

The same investigation against Russia’s OSJC Gazprom, Arseniy Yatsenyuk said, is conducted by the European Commission.

The Prime Minister urged the Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee "jointly with European partners to make every effort to bring to justice the Russian gas monopoly - OSCJ Gazprom for abuse of its monopoly in the Ukrainian market": "I ask along with our European partners to conduct an appropriate investigation."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk recalled that the total amount of the fine could be up to 10% of the total profit obtained by Gazprom on the Ukrainian territory.

He called it an important task also in the field of energy independence of Ukraine, "in order to demonopolize the energy trade market."

"We have already done a lot concerning access to transit (gas - Ed.). Ukraine adopted a new law on the gas market and is actually carrying out all the reforms under the Third Energy Package. And the role and place of the Antimonopoly Committee are very important ," Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed.
