OREANDA-NEWS. Metinvest Group’s Avdiivka Coke Plant was hit again by an intense artillery attack on Saturday, May 23. More than 40 shells landed on the plant’s territory. There were no deaths as a result of the attack.

The plant’s coke and coal preparation shops were heavily damaged. All four high-voltage electricity lines to Avdiivka Coke were cut. As a result, the plant suspended operations immediately, including coke production. As soon as the situation stabilizes, the plant plans to start restoring electricity supplies.

This was the second massive bombardment of the plant in the last several days. One worker died and two suffered wounds of varying degrees of severity due to an assault on May 21. The railway and repair & mechanical shops were severely damaged in that attack.

Avdiivka Coke has been shelled many times since July 2014. More than 200 shells have exploded on its territory since then.
