OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2015. Huawei today introduced its vision and spectrum strategy for 5G/4.5G and National Broadband Network (NBN) 2020 at the International Regulatory Conference 2015 (IRC 2015). Outlining its strategy in these areas for the first time to regulators, Huawei appealed for the acceleration of a global spectrum release and lower spectrum price to build a better connected world.

On the first day of the conference, Mr. Deng Taihua, Vice President of Huawei’s CEE & Nordic region, delivered a keynote speech on 5G and 4.5G, where he shared the industry’s progress and Huawei's vision for 5G. Then, Mr. Deng introduced the 4.5G solution, which is intended to help operators enhance their network competitiveness, maximize the value of the existing network, and develop new business opportunities. Finally, Mr. Deng pointed out, “Spectrum is the top priority for realizing 5G and 4.5G. An approximate 2GHz spectrum will be required in the future, and hence we hope that the whole industry will work together to speed up the release of these new spectrums and lower spectrum prices, to meet the requirements of 4.5G and future 5G, building a better network for a better user experience. ”

Mr. Tang Xinbing, CTO of Huawei’s Fixed Network, also delivered a keynote speech regarding the vision of building an NBN 2020, “With the target of Gigaband, the NBN 2020 will better connect consumers and businesses and provide a solid basic infrastructure for Industry 4.0, and stimulate the development of national economies. In order to realize the target of NBN 2020, some countries have already implemented regulatory policy adjustments to encourage investment, achieving good results. I believe there will be more countries that adopt a similar regulatory policy.”

The IRC 2015, a two-day global conference event, was held in Ohrid, one of the Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. More than 200 individuals including representatives of global telecom regulators, as well as local and industry partners, gathered to discuss ways of collaborating to establish telecommunications regulations more effectively, and promote the development of the telecommunications industry together. This year’s conference focused on promoting more spectrum releases for global mobile communications, and accelerating the development of mobile broadband and NBN for a better connected world. In addition to its focus on international regulation, the IRC also serves as a warm-up for ITU Telecom World and World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 (WRC15) which will be held later this year as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Since 2000, Huawei has continued to grow and develop its cooperation with European partners. Last year, Huawei signed more than 200 technical collaboration agreements and participated in 17 Framework Programme and Horizon 2020 projects.
