SunEdison wins 33MW solar contract with SCE
The new rooftop capacity will be located across Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties, and will feature 17 individual installations contracted under 20-year power purchase agreements, all expected on line by December 2016. The terms of the deal were not made public.
Under its solar photovoltaic program, SCE has issued a series of requests for offers seeking distributed solar projects no larger than 10MW to reach the market by 2015.
The latest SCE request also awarded San Diego-based developer Borrego Solar Systems contracts worth 10MW of distributed capacity scheduled to come on line in October 2016, according to a 12 May filing with the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
SCE has completed four separate requests totaling about 105MW, and will issue a fifth request for the remaining 20MW by the end of the year to reach its goal, SCE said.
Altogether, SunEdison has contracted for almost 50MW of capacity with SCE to achieve its 2015 goal.
"This project demonstrates solar systems can be sized and located to provide maximum benefit to the utility grid," SunEdison managing director for western distributed generation Sam Youneszadeh said.
SCE expects that the new SunEdison capacity will power about 63,000 homes, out of its 14mn total ratepayers across central and southern California.
