OREANDA-NEWS. BG Brasil has launched the second year of its Science Education Award programme. The initiative seeks to value, encourage and promote good teaching practices in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at Middle and Secondary schools in Rio de Janeiro.

The programme, which will award six teachers with an educational trip to London, England, is a result of a partnership between BG Brasil and the State Department of Education, and is supported by the Funda??o Victor Civita and the British Council. Throughout 2015, projects will be submitted from teachers who have been inspiring students to learn science subjects across the State's 92 municipalities.

This year, the number of teachers receiving awards will increase to six, doubling the number in 2014. This increase reflects the wider scope of the Awards, which now also include the Middle School teaching category and a new subject – Mathematics.

"Our Social Investment strategy is very focused on education, particularly science education, and these awards are a great celebration of that. They recognise best practices in Rio de Janeiro public education by the professionals who strive to contribute in developing our children and youths", said Nelson Silva, CEO BG South America.

In 2014, the first year of the award programme, three teachers from the municipalities of Teres?polis, Campos dos Goytacazes and Nova Igua?u won an educational trip to London where they had the opportunity to take part in lectures, seminars and visit  museums and schools.
