SSE host community visit to Wind Towers and Tangy Wind Farm
OREANDA-NEWS. Members of Acharossan Wind Farm’s development team were delighted to welcome visitors from the communities of Bute, Kilfinan, Glendaruel and Colintraive on a fact finding visit to Wind Towers Scotland Ltd and SSE’s Tangy wind farm this week. Each of the communities have an interest in community renewable energy schemes and were keen to learn more about developing wind farm projects. Once there, the group explored the wind turbine production process and experienced a working wind farm up close.
One visitor, Boyd Alexander from Bute Community Power stated: “All the participants really enjoyed our visit and we learnt a wealth of information about SSE’s supply chain, wind development and management. We would like to thank SSE and Wind Towers Ltd for organising the tour. Those participants involved with their own community wind projects found the experience invaluable!”
Martha Lovatt, Project Manager for the Acharossan wind farm development stated: “As a responsible developer we look to facilitate community visits wherever possible and provide advice wherever we can for those communities with an interest in community renewable energy schemes. SSE Renewables has committed to sourcing all of our required tower sections for our Scottish wind farm sites from Wind Towers so it was great to give some local community groups a sense of what the tower production process involves.”
SSE owns an 80.1% stake in Wind Towers, the only Scottish wind turbine tower manufacturer, which employs 130 people at their facility in Machrihanish near Campbeltown, Argyll.
