OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2015. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today met US Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Bruce Andrews. The sides discussed the prospects of the Moldovan-American cooperation, especially in the field of economy.

The prime minister said that economic development was one of the government’s top three priorities. "National unity, rule of law and sustainable economy are our priorities, underlying the country's modernisation and Moldova's European integration, the main objective", said the prime minister. Chiril Gaburici pointed out that the assistance and expertise of foreign partners was very important and expressed Moldova’s interest to attract investment to the economy, as well as taking over the best international practices in order to achieve these objectives.

For his part, Bruce Andrews reiterated the willingness of the US Department of Commerce to support the Moldovan government in promoting reforms and said that Moldova should turn into account all the cooperation and assistance opportunities.

The US official expressed confidence that Moldova had the potential to become a prosperous country. "The openness you show in the dialogue with foreign partners is impressive", said Bruce Andrews. US Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit, who attended the meeting, confirmed that, for the first time in his diplomatic experience, he had the opportunity to discuss openly and directly with the prime minister and members of the government about the country's development goals, as well as ways of carrying them out, referring to the joint working session between the Cabinet members and Moldova’s foreign partners on 1 May.

Since 1992, the United States of America have given Moldova financial assistance amounting to nearly 1.2 billion dollars, including 20.6 million dollars in 2014 through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programmes.
