Belgium: Carrefour lends its support to people with disabilities
OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2015. At the end of March, as part of the DUODay initiative, dozens of companies welcomed new jobseekers with disabilities onto a training course lasting a few days. The national DUODay initiative raises companies' awareness, encouraging them to hire people with disabilities. The idea behind it is very simple: the intern spends several days working in tandem with one of the store's employees.
Touriya spent five days working in the quality department. "I visited the laboratory where food analyses are carried out (…) I took part in DUODay to find out what I was actually capable of in a real-life situation. To see how much potential I have. And also to get the motivation I need to continue looking for a job".
22 stores (10 hypermarkets, 10 Carrefour Market stores and 2 Carrefour Express stores) and the Drive Solo took part and welcomed 32 duos. 15 duos working in central services. Altogether, 47 duos received training, making Carrefour one of the biggest participants in the DUOday initiative in Belgium. For this first holding of the event, the employees who served as mentors were very much involved in the project!
By taking part in this project, Carrefour Belgium is supporting the gradual implementation of initiatives and schemes to integrate people with disabilities into the Carrefour Group.
