OREANDA-NEWS. The international community is assisting Ukraine in building the shelter at the CNPP. This was announced by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ihor Shevchenko, who held a briefing today at the Cabinet House on the results of the negotiations concerning the financing of the shelter at the CNPP and he presented a report about his working visit to London.

According to the Minister, at a conference in London, international community was informed on what had been done and the Minister reported on the expenditure of funds.

“We understand that this is the problem not only for Ukraine, we got this problem and the international community understands this and helps Ukraine,” Ihor Shevchenko noted.

According to the Minister, since the design and until now the Shelter went up by about 5-fold to 1.5 billion euros. This is associated with technical problems that arose at the stage of implementation of the project and which could not have been foreseen in the first phase of project preparation. Now the necessary funds have practically been collected.

The Shelter needs €615 million in funding for the completion. Thanks to the aid of other countries during the Conference we’ve already got €540 million, but we still need to raise 75 million euros.

“We have a year and a half (to raise funds) and the process of fundraising is ongoing. We are negotiating with some countries,” Ihor Shevchenko said.

In particular, it is expected that in the near future China and the United Arab Emirates will give the answer about the willingness to contribute to the implementation of the project.

Ihor Shevchenko stressed that €540 million give the opportunity to hold works during the year. In turn, the EBRD has assured Ukraine that the necessary funds to complete the construction of the Shelter will be collected.
