Arseniy Yatsenyuk urges response to organized crimes ought to be strict and drastic
OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with all law enforcement agencies and the Security Service of Ukraine "using drastic measures to work out the fight against organized crime". He announced during an urgent meeting at the Interior Ministry on Monday, May 4, which was gathered to tackle the events in Kyiv in which two police officers had been killed and four seriously injured.
He evaluated skilled and well-coordinated work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, MIA deputy heads and Kyiv militia staff.
“Our response ought to resemble the actions demonstrated this morning – strict and drastic. Tough fight against organized crime all over the country using every legitimate means and tools. A large-scale operation with all possible materiel to prevent anyone from violating the law and shooting militiamen,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk urged.
He reminded that one of the dead officers had three children, another had two.
The Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior will appeal to the Kyiv city mayor with a request to check the living conditions of the families of the victims and to provide them with housing.
Moreover, he ordered to pay the families of law enforcement officers a compensation provided by law.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the Kyiv militia chief and asked him to meet with the families of the deceased and to do everything possible to help in such a hardship.
According to the Prime Minister, militia officers together with the National Guard worked effectively through May 1 and 2. Similar approach is to be applied on the eve of May 8 and 9, he noted. "We are now facing a situation when all day round operation of the entire law enforcement system should be ensured," stressed the Head of Government.
He reminded that now a new patrol service of Ukraine had began training and emphasized the need to contact American partners to assist in training of groups of immediate response corps.
Apart from that, the PM drew attention to the need to strengthen the material and technical component: "vests, cutting edge communications, automatic weapons”:"I mean, immediate response militia subdivisions should be equipped at most and must be trained".
Arsen Avakov informed that he would appeal to the President of Ukraine with a request to award the dead militia officers.
