SGX: Ten Largest IT Stocks Averaged 5% Price Gain YTD

The Information Technology (IT) sector comprises companies that offer software and information technology services, manufacturers and distributors of technology hardware & equipment and related instruments and semiconductors, according to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®). Among the 86 GICS®-classified IT stocks listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), Technology Hardware & Equipment represents the largest industry group by market capitalisation with 59%, followed by Software & Services with 28%, and Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment with 13%.
On average, the IT sector generated a price gain of 15.9%, with dividends boosting returns to 17.1% in the year-to-date. The five best performers were Huan Hsin Holdings (235%), Manufacturing Integration Technology (161%), IPS Securex Holdings (119%), Sinotel Technologies (118%), and Advanced Systems Automation (75%). Three of the companies – Huan Hsin Holdings, Sinotel Technologies and IPS Securex Holdings – have operations in Technology Hardware & Equipment industry, while the rest are in the Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment industry.

Two of the industry groups – Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment and Technology Hardware & Equipment – generated price gains in the year-to-date, while Software & Services averaged a decline of 3.6%. The Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment industry generated the highest average price gain of 40.5%, followed by Technology Hardware & Equipment with 14.3%.
10 Largest IT Stocks
The 10 largest IT stocks are Silverlake Axis, Venture Corporation, STATS ChipPAC, TPV Technology, GSH Corporation, Hi-P International, iFAST Corporation, GP Industries, Chuan Hup Holdings and CSE Global. With a combined market capitalisation of S\$9.5 billion, they make up more than two-thirds of the total market capitalisation of the IT sector. The 10 stocks averaged 4.8% price gains in the year-to-date, with dividends boosting their average returns to 5.2%. They also maintain an average yield of 3.7%, with yields ranging from 0.8% to 6.8%.
For the month of May, four of the 10 largest IT stocks will be distributing dividends. Shares in the stock of Venture Corporation and Hi-P International will go ex-dividend today, distributing S\$0.5 and S\$0.01 per share in dividends respectively. iFast will go ex-dividend tomorrow, distributing S\$0.0068 per share in dividends, while TPV Technology will go ex-dividend on 25 May, distributing US\$0.00128 per share in dividends.
