OREANDA-NEWS. Charlotte Douglas International Airport dedicated its new Hourly Deck and Consolidated Rental Car Facility on Monday, capping off CLT 2015, an 8-year, USD 1.5 billion development project that included the construction of a third parallel runway, Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facility and the realignment of Josh Birmingham Parkway.

The facility expansion also included the construction of a second Business Valet Deck, installation of a new inline baggage system and Terminal Westside Expansion as CLT renovates and builds to accommodate more than 44 million passengers annually.

"This is an exciting day for the City of Charlotte, the Airport, our partners and customers," says Interim Aviation Director Brent Cagle. "CLT 2015 has truly changed the landscape of CLT and has positioned Charlotte to remain a premier Airport."

At the dedication on Monday, Charlotte Douglas unveiled Destination CLT, a new development program that encompasses the first phase of the Airport's recently completed master plan update.

Destination CLT represents a USD 2.5 billion capital investment and includes four major projects aimed at enhancing capacity based on the Airport's growth forecast through 2035.

The four projects include expanding terminal curb front roadway and lobby, renovating existing concourses to update finishes such as ceilings, lighting walls and flooring, expanding gate capacity on multiple concourses, growing from 95 to 124 gates and construction of a fourth parallel runway.

"Destination CLT continues to reflect the Airport's mission; that development and construction will be demand driven," says Deputy Aviation Director Jack Christine. "We will build what we need, when we need it."

CLT is operated financially on a fully self-sustaining basis - no general fund revenues have ever been or are appropriated to the cost of the facilities or operations. Revenues from the airfield, terminal, concessions, parking and cargo area give the Airport its operating budget.
