OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2015. Shri Piyush Goyal , Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable energy discussed setting up of a smart grid in proposed smart city in Gurgaon, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Manohar Lal in Gurgaon today . Minister of State(IC) Planning & Defence Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, the Senior.officials of Haryana Government, Gurgaon Administration, Ministry of Power & POWERGRID were present in the meeting. On this occasion POWERGRID made a detailed presentation on road map of smart grid city.

During discussion , Shri Goyal emphasized that POWERGRID may take a lead in developing Smart Grid leading to smart city for Gurgaon. He said that proposed smart grid in Gurgaon must lead to following priority areas:

• One Map Gurgaon (Geographical Information System)

• Electricity system including Renewable Energy integration

• Water & Waste management

• Traffic & Transport system

Elaborating the benefits of the proposed system, Shri Goyal further stated that Smart grid would bring efficiency in power supply network and facilitate reduction in AT&C losses, reduction in outage frequency & duration, improved power quality, integration of renewable energy sources, demand side management & demand response, consumer participation in energy management, improved overall consumer satisfaction.

The growth/development of Gurgaon city will provide new opportunities to improve infrastructure, traffic & transport facilities, energy delivery, renewable energy sources integration, communication, waste management, water &public services, etc. as more concentrated populations would be easier to reach and smart city development would be an important step in this direction .

Such smart city would facilitate in generating employment opportunities, increased human productivity and realization of inherent urban potential. Cities need to become sustainable by being smarter, more efficient and liveable through better information sharing, improved resiliency to disruptions, and increased control over city systems, Shri Goyal added.
