International Support for Ukraine Conference ran in Kyiv
OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2015. The International Support for Ukraine Conference took place on the 28th of April in Kyiv on NSC Olympiyskiy. Senior government officials and top-level international partners as well as business circles discussed promising areas of investments in country, government results in stabilizing the economy and future steps of reforms in Ukraine.
About 500 distinguished guests from more than 50 countries of the world took part in the International Support for Ukraine Conference. In particular, representatives of EU institutions and its member states, Group of Seven countries, the United Nations; international organizations, world investment and business companies, opinion leaders and civil society.
The Conference was opened by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. Participants of the event also were Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Mr. Johannes Hahn, Prime Minister of Latvia (Latvian Presidency of the EU Council) Ms. Laimdota Straujuma EBRD managing director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige and others.
The discussions were held along four panels, to which there had been invited members of the Ukrainian Government and foreign specialists. The topics of the panels were as follows: rehabilitation of the eastern regions of Ukraine, business climate and investment opportunities in Ukraine, agrarian policy and reforms in this area, as well as energy efficiency.
Investment attraction is essential for economic growth, emphysized the Prime Minister of Ukraine during the Conference. "The best "Marshall plan" in this case is investing in Ukraine".
One of the areas for investment is the energy sector - emphysized Yatsenyuk. He recalled that last year, Ukraine's parliament passed a law that allows only EU and the US companies to invest in the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
According to the Government of Ukraine agriculture is one more key area for foreign investment: "We can produce clean and very competitive agricultural products".
The Prime Minister has also emphysized the importance of shared educational programs of the EU: "We expect that it will bring "higher IQ"- to move the country forward, to implement reforms and to become more competitive in the world".
"We really need "The Marshall Plan". I am convinced, that this conference is the first step of creating the huge comprehensive plan for Ukraine and for our mutual success" - Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.
