OREANDA-NEWS. April 28, 2015. The cabinet today approved a programme for the transition from the analogue terrestrial television to the digital TV. The concerned draft was developed based on the Regional Agreement Geneva-2006, ratified by Moldova in 2008.

According to the agreement, Moldova committed to complete the transition to digital terrestrial television no later than 17 June 2015. Since this date, analogue TV channels will not qualify for protection in case of disturbances triggered by digital television channels. Till the indicated deadline, Moldova will go through a transition period of 2-3 years, during which both networks broadcasting analog and digital signals will coexist.

Under the programme, in 2015-2017, licenses for using radio frequencies to create three digital terrestrial television networks (multiplexes) with national coverage and 21 with regional coverage, are to be issued. A multiplex with national coverage wis to be created by 17 June 2015.

To provide the legal basis for the issuance of broadcasting licenses to use the concerned multiplexes capacity, the Broadcasting Code will be amended and completed.
