VEB Participates in Conference
OREANDA-NEWS. Vnesheconombank participated in a Conference "Consolidation of Efforts by Government, Business and Civil Society in Implementing Anti-Corruption Policy". The conference was held in the UN House in Moscow.
In the attendance of the conference were representatives of federal government authorities, universities, business and the mass media. The conference's participants discussed business and civil society participation in implementing the governmental anti-corruption policy.
Special emphasis was placed on winning broad support of civil society and business for anti-corruption efforts by government authorities, the mass media's role in shaping negative public attitudes to corruption, raising awareness of individual and group actions designed to counter corruption as well as on education institutions' participation in forming anti-corruption pattern of behavior.
The conference's participants made a decision to prepare summary resolution to be submitted to the Russian Foreign Ministry for further consideration as an advisory document as part of preparing for the 6th Session of a Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption scheduled for November 2-6, 2015.
The Conference's organizers were the UN Global Compact Network in the Russian Federation, with VEB having been its leader since 2013, the Department of National Security of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation, the Russianian Civic Chamber's Commission on Civic Supervision, Civic Expert Evaluation and Cooperation with Community Councils, the interregional nongovernmental organization "The Anti-Corruption Committee".
A principle "Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery" has a special status and priority among ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact - the largest international initiative in sustainable development and forming global partnership between government and corporate sectors. It is celebrating its 15th year anniversary in June of 2015. This principle was announced by the participants in the UN Global Compact Leaders' Summit in June of 2004. In accordance with the UN Convention against Corruption and ideology of the UN Global Compact in this area, prevention of and fight against corruption, require united efforts by representatives of government authorities, civil society institutions as well as business sectors all over the world.
