OREANDA-NEWS. Lattelecom, the largest Latvian information and communication technology company, has increased net profit of the group by 14% in the first quarter of this year reaching 8.6 million euro, representing 1.1 million more in comparison with equivalent period in 2014, show the unaudited financial results of the group of companies.

The most significant growth by 12% in revenue accounts for the television business, while revenue from the broadband services has increased by 3% in comparison with equivalent period last year.

"Although the number of users of Lattelecom optical internet has grown by 13% and optical internet is available to more than 490 000 households in the whole territory of Latvia, Lattelecom has commenced the most ambitious modernisation of the internet network of Latvia in recent years, investing 3.5 million EUR to ensure availability of even ten times faster internet connection up to 60 Mbit/sec before the end of this year to 180 000 customers located outside the city centres. We want to provide as equal technological opportunities as possible to all residents regardless of their place of residence. The future of Latvia is related to availability of technologies to our residents, and that is a platform of information age allowing implementation of higher life quality. It must be reminded that Latvia has fulfilled the common European objective foreseeing provision of availability of internet connection at least 100 Mbit/s up to 2020 to half of the local residents already in 2014," stresses Juris Gulbis, the Chairman of the Board of Lattelecom.
