Estonia will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank
OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2015. Eesti Pank and the Ministry of Finance will attend the spring meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Development Committee of the World Bank on 16–18 April in Washington. The main subjects of the meetings will be the outlook and risks for the global economy and the strategic goals of the IMF and the World Bank for the next half year.
The IMF meeting will focus on developments in the global economy and the outlook for financial markets and it will also consider the risks to economic growth and the options for ensuring global growth. Questions related to the governance of the IMF, in particular measures to ensure the sufficiency of IMF resources and improvement to the representation of member states at the Fund, will be addressed as well.
The meeting of the World Bank will mainly discuss the improvement of the financing of the development of the global economy in connection with the UN’s third International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in Addis Ababa on 13–16 July.
Estonia will be represented in the spring meetings by Deputy Governor of Eesti Pank Madis M?ller and by Vice Chancellor of the Ministry of Finance M?rten Ross. Experts from the central bank and the Ministry of Finance will also participate.
They will meet with Christoph Klingen, head of the IMF mission to Estonia, specialists on Russia and China, and representatives of the US treasury department and the Federal Reserve, and the World Bank.
The meetings of the IMF and the World Bank are held twice a year and bring together high-level delegations from all the countries of the world to discuss key economic questions and coordinate economic policy.
