OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2015. Murdo McGhie, Director of SSE Renewables talks briefly about why SSE is supporting the Highlands and Islands Tourism awards.

SSE is thrilled to support the Highlands and Islands Tourism awards as flagship event sponsor for the third year running.  As an energy business firmly rooted in the Highlands of Scotland we have ‘grown up’ hand in hand with the burgeoning tourism industry in this unique part of the world.

Like the tourist trade, SSE would be nothing without its people.  Our employees live and work in the communities we serve.  SSE’s understanding of the Highlands runs deep because our business has been embedded here for a very, very long time; delivering the first electricity lines to remote communities, and harnessing the ‘power from the glens’ for over 70 years.  This beautiful part of the world is home to communities that are resilient, and an economy we all want to see thrive.

This year’s Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards promise to be the best yet.  We at SSE are again hopeful of bountiful entries as people from far and wide nominate the companies, events, attractions and individuals who have made their visit to the Highlands and Islands extra special and memorable.

HITA is about recognising excellence and SSE shares the aspiration of promoting the best possible standards across the Highlands and Islands.  The energy and tourism sectors have together learned much about how to best cultivate quality in the work we do.   I am very confident we can continue to drive towards a stronger future together with our tourism partners in order to keep on achieving our mutual goals for the communities and the economy of the Highlands and Islands.

We wish everyone at HITA and the wider tourism industry another successful and rewarding year – time to get nominating!
