Fitch Releases Report on Brazilian Wind Project Performance
The data indicates that even in years which are considered positive in term of wind regime, such as 2014, several projects generated energy levels more than 10% below P50 levels. The high standard deviation of year-over-year project performance also highlights the seasonal and volatile nature of wind regimes. It also shows that not even the 'best project' is protected from the volatility of the wind resource.
The data was extracted from the national grid operator's (Operador Nacional do Sistema Eletrico - ONS) monthly wind generation report, dated December 2014. The sample was adjusted to remove projects which have begun operating after January 2014, in order to have at least one full year of operating data. In total, the information is derived from 27 projects connected to the grid, with 731 wind turbine generators, and total installed capacity of 1,354 average MW.
Annex A of the report provides data on energy generation consolidated by state, commercial operating date, and by sponsor.
