OREANDA-NEWS. The JSC TATNEFT’s Engineering Center has designed a submersible electric motor with a high power factor to reduce energy costs.

The introduction of the engine with a high power factor allows reducing power losses by 4.7 percent. In 2015, as part of the "Plan of introduction of new equipment and advanced technology at JSC TATNEFT”, these engines will be introduced at 30 facilities of the Company.

The submersible electric motor (SEM) developed by the Company’s professionals is applied to   drive the submersible electric pump when lifting fluid from oil wells. Previously known submersible motors belong to a classic version and comprise a cylindrical body with an incorporated stator with windings, a rotor with a shaft, a current feed unit and   engine seal section. Such motor design of the   ESP unit leads to quite large   active power losses.

Energy efficiency of the new engineering development is achieved through  maximum proximity of the reactive power source location to the submersible electric motor by placing a low-voltage cosine capacitor inside the module attached to the SEM. The placement of the capacitor inside the module rigidly attached to the submersible motor results in reducing reactive power consumption from the network and active power losses in the submersible cable. Reducing the reactive power consumption allows increasing the power factor of the motor.

This development of the JSC TATNEFT’s Engineering Center was awarded the first degree diploma at the International specialized exhibition "Energy. Resource Saving-2015” in the category "Energy efficient products".
