High Level Policy Makers to Discuss the Future of Pensions in Latin America and the Caribbean
OREANDA-NEWS. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will hold a special panel discussion on the future of pensions in Latin America and the Caribbean on April 20th at the IDB’s Enrique Iglesias Auditorium in Washington DC.
The event, marking the launch of the publication Pensions at a Glance: Latin America and the Caribbean, will be opened by Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the IDB, and Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of the OECD. Gabriela Frias, Business Anchor for CNN en Español, will moderate a high level panel which will discuss different policy approaches to ensure greater coverage and sustainability of pensions in the region.
Today, nearly 23 million people over 65 in Latin America and the Caribbean do not receive a pension financed by their own contributions and, in the absence of reforms, this number will skyrocket in the coming decades. By 2050, between 66 and 83 million people 65 and older may not have a contributory pension in the region.
