OREANDA-NEWS. Furukawa Electric announced the status of the recovery in production volumes of copper strip products, for which integrated production was restarted in January this year. Furukawa Electric expressed to continue to implement steady operation and aim to become a “manufacturer that meets its responsibilities as a partner”.
The suspension of integrated production as a result of the snow damage of February 2014 caused production volumes of copper strip products to fall to around 60% of their previous level. However, by implementing the recovery effort in accordance with the plan and utilizing advance samples, production volumes have been successfully increased since January this year. By the end of the first quarter of the current fiscal year, around 85% of the previous production level is expected.
Moving forward, Furukawa Electric will focus on the infrastructure and automotive markets and make full use of their strengths in oxygen-free copper and original copper alloys, and to make every effort to overtake as soon as possible the production volume they had achieved prior to the snow damage.

The stock of other companies’ products accumulated during the suspension of integrated production has been made progress in adjusting, and demand has increased for products such as automotive connectors supplied to Furukawa Electric group company, Furukawa Automotive Systems, Inc.

There have not been any major changes in demand trends overall, but since last year Furukawa Electric has accepted in new orders for products that utilize the superior “secondary properties” of their original alloys, including “non-magnetic”, “dicing” and “plating” products.
