AfDB to promote water for the future at 2015 World Water Forum in Korea
OREANDA-NEWS. The cities of Daegu and Gyeongbuk are the host of the world’s largest meeting on water, with the 7th edition of the World Water Forum taking place this year in South Korea, from April 12-15. Building on its participation to the 6th Forum in Marseille in 2012, the African Development Bank will be contributing its experience and lessons learned from dealing with various water issues in Africa, to a global discussion on worldwide water challenges with decision- and policy-makers representing more than 150 nations.
Under the theme “Water for Our Future” the AfDB is convening three events part of the official programme, which include:
Tuesday, April 14
This side-event will showcase the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation initiative and its contributions to achieving safe water and sanitation for all in Africa.
Wednesday, April 15
This session, part of the regional process, will draw from lessons learnt in Asia-Pacific, the Americas and Africa.
Wednesday, April 15
Part of the thematic process of the forum, this session shall focus on the importance of monitoring and evaluation to achieve real universal access to water.
Forum participants can meet representatives of the AfDB and the African Ministers’ Water Council on Water at a shared exposition space at the Daegu exhibition center, where the two partners are showcasing their investments and initiatives to increase water security on the continent.
The AfDB will be participating in a high-level panel on water infrastructure financing as well as key sessions of the Africa Regional Process led by the African Ministers’ Council on Water, which will examine the status of water in Africa.
With support from the Korea Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Trust Fund, the AfDB is supporting the participation of 30 African representatives at the Forum to ensure that the continent’s voice is heard at this important global water event.
The World Water Forum takes please every three years since 1997. The World Water Forum consists of at least three processes: the political process, the thematic process and the regional process. Each topic is developed in cooperation with the private sector, governments, industry, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and academic groups into a common framework of goals and concrete targets to reach.
