OREANDA-NEWS. Representatives of Naftogaz of Ukraine held meetings with NATO and the European Commission in Brussels.

During the visit, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev took part in a meeting of the NATO - Ukraine Commission which was devoted to energy security issues.

The Naftogaz delegation also met with representatives of the European Commission to discuss the next steps in reforming the Ukrainian gas market and increasing energy integration across the continent. The sides noted Ukraine's progress in adopting the new law "On the Natural Gas Market". An action plan for further cooperation in gas transportation and supply, based on the provisions of the new law, was also discussed.

Commenting on the adoption of the new law by the Parliament of Ukraine yesterday, Director of the Energy Community Janez Kopac said in a statement: "I sincerely welcome today's adoption of the new gas market law which is in compliance with the Third Energy Package by the Ukrainian Parliament. This brings to an end an intensive process, in which the Energy Community Secretariat was strongly involved. The law was drafted by the Secretariat and submitted to the Ukrainian authorities in April 2014. The Secretariat continued to actively support the law's adoption, starting from the technical level to presenting and defending the law in front of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Minister and Parliament. The law was adopted by an overwhelming majority of votes, notably by 290 in favour out of 422. The significance of this law is hardly explainable at this moment. Gas issues are at the centre of the Ukrainian society and politics. This law will substantially change both in a positive way. The next challenge for Ukraine will be the law's implementation in practice. I confirm that the Secretariat's support will not fade in this next phase".
