Japan’s AGC to develop Indonesian power plant
OREANDA-NEWS. Japan's Asahi Glass (AGC) is building a 250MW coal-fired power plant in Indonesia to help reduce energy costs across its Asia-Pacific operations.
The \$400mn plant will come on line in 2017 and burn the low-cost, lower-quality coal of which Indonesia is a major producer. AGC hopes the plant will help significantly reduce its electricity costs, which make up a sizeable proportion of its overall manufacturing costs.
The plant will use circulating fluidised bed boilers to reduce CO2 emissions and will be able to burn mixed fuel, including biomass.
The Indonesian plant will supply power to AGC's subsidiary Asahimas Chemical, which is looking to increase its Indonesian production capacity in the coming years.
