AfDB Board members conclude impact mission to Mozambique
The 11 Executive Directors and a Senior Advisor representing the Executive Director for Nigeria, S?o Tom? and Pr?ncipe together with Joseph Ribeiro, the AfDB Resident Representative in Mozambique, attended a high-level meeting with key government officials. They included Adriano Afonso Maleiane, the Minister of Economy and Finance, his counterparts in the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, and Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Vice-Minister of Industry and Commerce was also present, as well as other senior government officers including Governor of the Central Bank of Mozambique.
The delegation then held discussions with the Speaker of Parliament, Veronica Macamo, before meeting with heads of missions accredited in Mozambique, including Swedish, Canadian, Japanese, German, Danish, Portuguese and French Ambassadors as well as UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) representative.
The delegation also met with the private sector, led by the Confederation of Trade Associations, and civil society under the auspices of the Foundation for the Development of Communities. The meetings concluded with the private sector and civil society calling for increased cooperation with the Bank.
Discussions with donor partners highlighted key priorities that the Bank needs to focus on as the country journeys towards enhanced social and economic development.
The delegation – led by Samy Zaghloul, AfDB Executive Director representing Egypt and Djibouti, and hosted by Mahomed Rafique, the Bank’s Executive Director representing Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe – included Board Members representing Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Benin, Botswana, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Comoros, C?te d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Guinea, Japan, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Portugal, S?o Tom? & Pr?ncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Swaziland, Switzerland, Togo, Tunisia and Zambia.
The mission to Mozambique took place from March 28 to April 4.
