OREANDA-NEWS. On 6 April President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich to receive his report.

The head of state wanted to be informed about the operation of the Council of the Republic, the interaction between the upper camber of the Belarusian parliament with local MPs. The President also asked Mikhail Myasnikovich about the results of his recent visit to Turkmenistan and the first results of work of the monitoring group led by the chairman of the Council of the Republic which is working out proposals regarding topical issues in the economy and manufacturing sector.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus should step up cooperation with local MPs. “I had a serious discussion of this issue with Boris Batura when he was the chairman of the upper chamber of the parliament. We agreed that our senate should work in close cooperation with them,” the Belarusian leader said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich, in turn, said that the work with the representatives of local councils is one of the main priorities for the upper chamber of the parliament. The council for cooperation between local authorities was established in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly several years ago. Mikhail Myasnikovich also informed the President about the performance of the Council of the Republic. About 65 legal acts and other documents are currently under consideration of the MPs.

Speaking about cooperation with Turkmenistan, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the decision to build the the Garlyk mining and processing factory in Turkmenistan was right. “We did the right thing by starting the construction of this factory. The experience and the schooling that our construction workers will get there are invaluable. It will signify that we are not rubes and are not limited to operating something created by our ancestors. Instead it will signify that we know how to build state-of-the-art enterprises. Most importantly, we are learning, we are improving construction methods and techniques,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko also listened to the report on the first results of work of the monitoring group. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the group studies these issues in package, travels to regions and visits companies to hear out the opinions. All the proposals are submitted to the government or the National Bank. The issues considered by the monitoring group can be divided into two groups. One group comprises systemic problems that should be addressed as a whole taking into account the country’s monetary and currency policy. The second group includes the issues that require individual approaches to the situations at companies where systemic measures cannot bring the necessary effect.

The head of state gave an instruction to continue the work in the abovementioned areas.
