Fuel tank ablaze at Santos port in Brazil

OREANDA-NEWS. April 03, 2015. Firefighters at Santos port, Latin America's busiest cargo port, are battling a blaze caused by an explosion this morning at a fuel storage tank owned by Brazil's Ultracargo, the company said.

The cause of the fire at a chemical storage facility is unknown and no injuries have been reported.

Ultracargo says it is Brazil's largest bulk liquids storage firm.

The company's Santos port facility has a total storage of 301,300 m? (10.6mn ft?) including 175 tanks with individual capacity ranging from 100 m? to 10,000 m?.

The facility handles oil products, ethanol and vegetable oils, among others.

"Smoke from the explosion could be seen from various parts of the city of Santos," oil workers union Sindepetro-LP said.
