Fire has 'minimal' impact on oil flow: Pemex

OREANDA-NEWS. April 03, 2015. A fire yesterday aboard an oil processing platform in the Campeche bay area of the Gulf of Mexico will have a "minimal" impact on production, state-run Pemex chief executive Emilio Lozoya said.

About 40,000 b/d of crude that is normally processed on the Abkatun A-Permanente platform will be re-directed to other platforms, Lozoya said.

The blaze, which is now extinguished, killed four people and injured 45 others.

The platform separates gas from crude oil.

The crude for the platform comes from the Abkatun Pol-Chuc complex, which in February produced 309,821 b/d, according to data from Mexico's energy ministry.

Pemex said last night that a small quantity of leaked fuel had been contained by specialized vessels, preventing an oil spill.

The blaze ignited in the dehydration and pumping section of the platform, Pemex said.

Prolific Campeche is the site of the company?s mainstay Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap fields.
