RWE AG publishes sustainability report for 2014
This year, the report focuses on the Areas for Action of Climate Protection, Market/Customer and Supply Chain. There are great challenges in these areas, but also opportunities to make the company even more sustainable. This includes continuing to reduce CO2 emissions in electricity production and innovative products and services for customers – but it also means procuring sustainable fuel supplies for RWE power plants.
The report also provides facts and figures showing how sustainable RWE is as a company and the contribution it is making to the energy transition in Germany as well as in other European countries. It takes stock of the previous year and provides measurable and binding sustainability targets for the future.
In addition, the report offers information about how the company is using the Bettercoal initiative to reinforce sustainability in hard-coal extraction, is supporting customers in becoming more energy efficient and further reduces its CO2 emissions per unit of electricity produced. RWE will continue to pursue its stated aim here: a reduction in CO2 emissions of 20% by 2020 compared to 2005. In addition to addressing technical and economic aspects, the report also goes into societal challenges the energy industry is facing while the supply system is being redesigned.
For the fourth consecutive time, the RWE AG sustainability report is only available online. This also allows users to gain fast access to further information sources such as other RWE pages or the RWE key performance indicator tool which now provides over 1,900 data sets on RWE's development in the areas of generation, environment and key financial indicators for the years 2006 to 2014. As in 2013, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) audited the report, this time in accordance with the new G4 reporting standard. The report was also audited by Limited Assurance auditors, as in previous years.
