OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2015. The Polish Government decided to allocate Ukraine a EUR100 million long term loan. Half of these funds shall be directed at building roads that lead to international crossing points on the border, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this at a Government’s meeting.

He said that during his meeting with Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz in Kyiv last week it was agreed that half of EUR100 million would be sent to construction, especially of those roads that lead to international border entry points. "Because we have European roads from the Poland side - and still the Soviet Union ones from the Ukraine side," he added.

The Prime Minister also said that yesterday along with Finance Minister of Ukraine Natalia Jaresko he met with World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Qimiao Fan. He noted that the World Bank would provide Ukraine with \\$800 million for the construction of the Poltava-Kharkiv highway, "But we agreed to divide that amount - half will go to the Poltava-Kharkiv highway, and the rest - to repair existing roads, as the state of roads in the country is just terrible."

At the same time Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the next plenary week the Parliament of Ukraine should "finally vote last five laws necessary to make the World Bank project work." He appealed to members of the Coalition Government to meet with all factions of the coalition on this issue in order to ensure the adoption of bills, including on the improvement of investors' rights in the country and the natural gas market.

According to the Prime Minister, he would raise this issue at a meeting with the President of Ukraine, as well as at a meeting with parliamentary factions.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded that the Government had allocated UAH1.7 billion for the current, or so-called "pothole" repair of the roads. In addition, UAH700 million had been earmarked for mending roads in Western Ukraine. "UAH 700 million must be fairly distributed," he noted.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of quality control and use of the funds during the construction and repair of roads:"In order to prevent celebration on the issue [funds allocation-ed.]at Ukravtodor, we should carry out spot checks on quality and on use due to well-known fraudulent schemes.

Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarsky said that he was carrying on talks on an independent inspector with representatives of Britain, Austria and Germany.
