Pemex reports oil rig blaze: Update 2OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2015. Mexico's state-run Pemex reported a fire early this morning aboard its Abkatun Permanente oil processing platform in Campeche bay in the Gulf of Mexico.

Nearly 300 workers have been evacuated so far, and eight fire-fighting vessels have been sent to extinguish the blaze, Pemex said.

The company said four people died and 16 were injured, two seriously.

The platform is part of the Abkatun Pol Chuc complex, which produced 309,821 b/d in February, according to Mexico's energy ministry.

Processing should be transferred to nearby platforms, preventing any significant alteration in production, a Pemex spokesperson said.

The ongoing blaze ignited in the dehydration and pumping section of the platform, Pemex said.

Prolific Campeche is the site of the company mainstay Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap fields.
