OREANDA-NEWS. March 31, 2015. ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies and services, together with ATMS Global, a trusted developer and integrator of logistics software and solutions across the Middle East region, presented their joint solutions to eliminate losses and fines during customs clearance in eMirsal system to local logistic companies at their workshop “Automating Customs Processes and Going Paperless”.

The number of participants exceeded the expected list twice and included many major national and international shipping, logistics, freight forwarding, retail and distribution companies, as well as Government bodies. All the visitors shared the same interest — how to automate declaration and invoice processing for the Dubai Customs clearance system eMirsal. Aberdeen Group research and ABBYY regional analytics show that 86% of Customs Clearance and Accounts Payable departments still process invoices manually. "There's a big demand in the logistics industry to improve productivity right across their operation. The area of invoice processing and customs declarations has been much neglected - in most companies it's been running the same way since the introduction of PCs in the 1980's. Clients are realizing that with specialist providers like ABBYY and ATMS they can reduce costs by 90% whilst reducing errors and speeding up their business," Steve Cross, CEO of ATMS Group, commented on the feedback of the audience.

Companies were informed about the invoice capture automation solution and could see the ROI on case studies and the whole invoice processing chain from scanning to export into eMirsal in a live demo project. “Last year we launched a specialized business-ready solution for automating invoice capture – ABBYY FlexiCapture for Invoices. Crucial difference between this product and other data capture solutions is in the built-in country-specific settings and validation rules for invoices as well as the flexibility to adapt to particular business needs and future changes. The technology has already proved itself highly efficient in a number of logistics projects across the region, like Dubai customs clearance automation for Hellmann, for example,” explains Igor Shkamratov, Business Development Director, Middle East and Africa, ABBYY.

"The seminar was extremely well attended. Thus, we are working closely with ABBYY to provide more training sessions and workshops in the region, and are planning a further top level seminar in September," summed up Steve Cross.
