OREANDA-NEWS. March 27, 2015. NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications business within NTT (NYSE: NTT) Group, announced today that it has begun operating vending machines to sell "Prepaid SIM for Japan" (Prepaid SIM) cards for short-term business travelers and tourists in two locations in Japan-AQUA CITY ODAIBA and New Kansai International Airport-starting today. The world's first such vending machines enable customers to begin using prepaid mobile service in as fast as two minutes after purchasing the sim card.

After purchase, the user simply registers their information such as name and birthday via a touch panel or a passport scanner to begin accessing the Internet immediately. Instructions are provided in English and Chinese, as well as Japanese. Payment is via credit card, so there is no need to prepare Japanese yen cash.

NTT Com's Prepaid SIM cards are already available via retailers at airports, electronic stores and travel agencies. A record 13 million tourists visited Japan in 2014 and more are expected this year, so NTT Com intends to continue expanding the retail outlets for its Prepaid SIM.
