ThyssenKrupp acknowledged best mass transit system components manufacturer in Brazil

With its large local manufacturing base, the company introduced the innovative fastest escalator in Brazil and provided mobility solutions for the country's major airports as well as to four of the 2014 World Cup stadiums. ThyssenKrupp was given the award for mobility equipment provided for Sao Paulo’s metro and rail stations.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s mass transit mobility solutions in Brazil have been recognized for their superior performance under highly demanding operating conditions. The company, which supplied a total of 68 elevators and escalators at four of Brazil’s World Cup stadiums in 2014, an event that saw a more than 3.4 million spectators, has now been presented with the Revista Ferrovi?ria Award (Railway Magazine Award) in the category “Best Manufacturer of System Components”, for supplying equipment for metro stations in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. The Revista Ferrovi?ria Awards aim to acknowledge companies and personalities that contribute most to the railway industry, and is one of the most important events in the sector.
ThyssenKrupp's latest award is a recognition of the company’s German-quality products, produced in Brazil. With over 4,500 employees in the country, a large manufacturing site located in the city of Porto Alegre - producing for Brazil and for Latin America - and installation and maintenance services branches in more than 60 locations in Brazil, ThyssenKrupp is a leader in the elevator market in Brazil.
With the supply of its advanced mobility solutions, ThyssenKrupp Elevator ensures efficient passenger flow of the almost eight million commuters who travel daily via Sao Paulo’s rail and metro stations.
The city’s new metro stations were provided with 38 new escalators, and 15 new escalators were delivered for stations of the Sao Paulo commuter trains company (CPTM). The company also supplied 377 elevators and 157 escalators for the expansion of the S?o Paulo metro system, including the fastest escalator installed in Brazil, operating at a 0.75 metres per second.
ThyssenKrupp has also supplied mobility solutions for the S?o Paulo international airport, the largest in the country, and for five other airports throughout the country, including the ones of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Fortaleza; for the World Cup 2014 the company equipped the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, the Estadio Beira Rio in Porto Alegre, the Arena Castelao in Fortaleza and the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba – in total, these products are capable of moving nearly 200,000 football fans within all four stadiums.

This is the second time that the Revista Ferrovi?ria award has been presented to ThyssenKrupp, which won the 2014 award for supplying five Wagon Car Dumpers for the Maritime Terminal Ponta da Madeira, Sao Luiz (State of Maranhao).

Local operation comprises a workforce of almost 12,000 employees distributed across 19 factories, 76 branches and 4 research and development centers. In the next five years, ThyssenKrupp Brazil plans to invest in new automotive plants and technologies; operational improvements in the steel mill and the production capacity expansion of elevator’s factory in Rio Grande do Sul.
