Huawei, ONOS, and ONF to Build Open and Innovative SDN Ecosystem Catering for Operators
The requirement for ultra-fast connections and focus on reducing costs has resulted in software-defined networking (SDN) becoming key for operator network architecture transformation. Led by leading global operators and equipment suppliers, ONOS is the industry’s first open source SDN control platform which focuses on operators’ networks and service requirements and considers operators’ demands including high performance, reliability, security, and scalability. Its robust architecture design makes it an ideal choice for operators to develop their business in the future.
Huawei’s SDN solutions will fully support the ONOS platform and, through a close relationship with ONOS, ONF, and Open Platform for NFV, Huawei will focus on creating a cohesive, open, and programmable SDN network architecture to meet the needs of operators.
Mr. Ram Appalaraju, Strategy Consultant, ONOS, said, “Huawei is a founding member of ONOS and has made significant contributions to the organization’s development. ONOS will continuously respond to operator requirements, partner with Huawei to optimize the open source control platform, and promote the openness and healthy development of the industry ecosystem by placing benefits to operators at the forefront.”
Mr. Dan Pitt, Executive Director, ONF, said, “Network operators are rushing to benefit from SDN and are increasingly looking to open-source software as an effective vehicle for rapid deployment of key SDN components. ONF is thrilled when our members embrace SDN and open-source technologies to meet critical operator needs and we applaud today’s announcements, which help to build a healthy SDN industry ecosystem.”
Mr. Zha Jun, President, Fixed Network Product Line, Huawei and ONOS Board Member, said, “SDN openness and innovation will be a huge motivator behind industry development, requiring the joint efforts of numerous stakeholders. Huawei will contribute with operator requirements to the ONOS core architecture. We will enrich southbound and northbound interfaces, and actively provide open source code to support ONOS with adapting to various SDN scenarios and build an open and healthy industry ecosystem.”
Huawei is committed to developing SDN architectures that support operator business transformations and innovations. These architectures will help operators improve operational efficiency, achieve flexible service deployment, and open network capabilities. To date, Huawei has carried out over 40 joint innovation projects with leading global operators, and is the industry leader for SDN commercialization.
