OREANDA-NEWS. The last layer of concrete is poured inside the containment (IC) of the Leningradskaya NPS-2 first unit reactor building.

“Metrostroy” construction workers are finishing to concrete the inside reactor containment (IC 10UJA). The branch of CJSC “CONCERN TITAN-2” in Sosnovy Bor appears for the works organizer under the project, meanwhile two departments of “Metrostroy” – CJSC “Compact” and JSC “UM” stand as the performers.

Active construction in the inside containment of the first power unit reactor began in May 2012. As a design and installation decision for the IC cladding, large-block construction method was used which involved top pre-assembly of various cladding elements on special stands. Whereupon, the enlarged elements weighing up to 300 tons were installed on regular places with the help of cranes.

At the beginning of the works “Manitowoc” crane was used (property of JSC “UAT”), the weight of the lifted blocks was up to 200 tons. With the acquisition of “Liebherr” crane the preassembled elements lifted weight increased up to 350 tons.

Over the entire period of construction, in total, the design of IC alone required laydown of more than 11 thousand cubic meters of concrete and installation of more than 1,000 tons of steelwork.

Once construction workers finish the inside reactor containment concreting it will be allowed to establish conditions and install housings for sealed passages of the inside and outside reactor containment, and upon 4.5 months to perform compression of the IC, providing for elimination of microcracks in the concrete layer. By means of it the inside containment will preserve the necessary air permeability and leak tightness.

All construction and installation works on the IC are to be completed in August 2015.
