OREANDA-NEWS. Secure mobile communications is a major focus in Deutsche Telekom's security portfolio. At the Mobile World Congress, the company is presenting solutions that make it even easier to make calls and surf the web securely on the go: with the Mobile Encryption app, Deutsche Telekom is one of the first providers to market a globally deployable mobile encryption solution for smartphones. The second solution, the Corporate Security Hub, filters malware from the network before it can reach user devices – like a digital washing machine. The solution is available to corporate customers and system customers worldwide. The mobile encryption app is currently available to major corporate customers in Germany, but there are plans to launch it internationally and to the SME segment as well.

No chance for wiretappers: Mobile Encryption app
The Mobile Encryption app already available from T-Systems makes it possible to make encrypted calls, even under the most inhospitable conditions. In contrast to other solutions, the app works in every mobile network and even without a SIM card, via Wi-Fi. The solution enables encrypted communication even in countries that block Internet phone calls. The app merely needs a bandwidth of 4.8 kbit (net), which means it also works in areas with poor network coverage. The Mobile Encryption app implements the strongest encryption methods currently available on the market, which even cryptographers think cannot be cracked in the foreseeable future.

When two users want to communicate with this solution, they only need install the Mobile Encryption app on their smartphones. No customer-specific technical infrastructure is needed in the background. The keys, which enable secure communications in the solution, are generated only on the smartphones used and are deleted immediately at the end of a call. They are always under the user's exclusive control, fully independent of the network provider.

The application areas of the solution include, but are not limited to, confidential contract negotiations, merger talks, research and development and even witness protection programs. The solution costs between 15 and 20 euros per device each month, depending on procurement volumes.

Filter out malicious code easily: Corporate Security Hub
Like a virtual washing machine, the Corporate Security Hub keeps smartphones and tablets clean by filtering out malware from the Internet before it can reach them. This eliminates the need to install anti-virus programs and central firewall functions on each individual mobile device.

The new service lets each company decide individually which protective measures they want to implement: they can choose which source and destination addresses they want to allow or block in Internet traffic. They can also decide which ports they wish to accept and which known botnets to block. Additional protection is provided by encrypting communications through a secure connection (SSL VPN tunnel). If employees log on to the Internet through an insecure hot spot, for example, external intervention is blocked; the service also prevents session hijacking, in which criminals join a communication link unnoticed and skim the information.

The service is based in the cloud, which provides additional advantages with regard to flexibility, scalability and central management. Company devices can be registered and configured according to the company policies easily through a web portal. An overview of attacks can be generated at the touch of a button – for each individual device. The number of users is freely selectable and modifiable; the security standards are always state of the art and investments in hardware become largely unnecessary. This security solution from the cloud also relieves the load on network connections at company headquarters. To do so, all data traffic is routed through German data centers, where it is checked for and cleansed of hazards in real time.
The solution is available to corporate customers and system customers worldwide. For the solution launch, the procurement volume of the basic package is 400 mobile devices and costs EUR 2.50 per device each month.
