An extended meeting of the executives of the Retail Companies Association member companies was held on February 12. Participants discussed current situation on the consumer market, as well as topical industry issues requiring rapid response.
During the meeting, retail representatives expressed concern regarding biased feeding the public with the information about the situation in the retail trade, on the alleged unreasonably high rates of trade mark-ups in the chain stores.
Persons present were unanimous in the opinion that the network format of trade involves in maintaining a low level of consumer prices in the interests of attracting customers. Meeting participants confirmed in their speeches that retail chains followed and intend to follow this principle and even in the current difficult economic conditions, using the mechanisms of self-regulation.
