PotashCorp Supports UNB Promise Partnership Program
OREANDA-NEWS. Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) announced a donation to the University of New Brunswick (UNB) to support initiatives for youth residing in the two Saint John neighborhoods of Crescent Valley and the Old North End.
PotashCorp is investing USD 50,000 in UNB Saint John's Promise Partnership. This is a community-based and university-run program focused on enriching the academic performance of primary and secondary school students from neighborhoods that have traditionally experienced low high school graduation rates.
Jean-Guy Leclair, General Manager of PotashCorp's New Brunswick potash operations, made the announcement while visiting the Promise Partnership's high school tutoring program at the Saint John campus of UNB.
"PotashCorp strives to improve the quality of life in our operating communities and we are very happy to help the Promise Partnership strengthen educational opportunities in Saint John," said Leclair. "We export our products through the Port of Saint John and we're excited to help support this important community initiative."
"The program is also teaching our university students the value of being good neighbors and the impact of working together to address community issues. The Promise Partnership's high school program supports students who historically would not have believed that a post-secondary education was possible for them," said Dr. Robert MacKinnon, Vice President at UNB Saint John.
PotashCorp's New Brunswick operation and the Port of Saint John are important to the Canadian company's success. PotashCorp is the only North American potash producer that can export from both coasts of Canada; the New Brunswick operation serves customers in places such as Brazil, the US and the Caribbean.
