OREANDA-NEWS. A total of 1,655,675 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in January, representing a 0.7% year-on-year increase. International traffic continues to drive growth.

January is traditionally one of the quietest months in international aviation, and at Copenhagen Airport, the number of passengers is traditionally about one million less per month during the winter than during the summer. Still, Copenhagen Airport set a passenger record for the 21st consecutive month.

"At more than 3% growth, our intercontinental traffic continues to show good growth rates. The growth is primarily driven by the three overseas routes opened by Norwegian in 2014. Moreover, Qatar Airways added an additional four weekly frequencies to Doha from 1 February," said Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S."

Intercontinental traffic out of Copenhagen Airport grew by 3.1% in January, while passenger numbers on the European network grew by 1.1%. Due to lower capacity on a number of domestic services, passenger numbers on the domestic routes were down by 7.8%.

The growth in passenger numbers was driven by higher load factors, as the number of take-offs and landings was down by an aggregate 4.3% in January.
