This drive is a part of series of mega selection drives being conducted in the state to scout fresh talent from the State. Eight more such drives are planned in the state in the next two months to cover the far flung areas including Samba, Sopore, Baramulla, Kathua, Reasi and Doda.
Three drives have already been conducted in Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur which has shown tremendous response from the students. In these drives nearly 2,400 candidates were selected and many more from the final year academic session were shortlisted for selection in Corporate India.
Special Industry Initiative or Udaan was conceived with two objectives of providing exposure to the graduates and post graduates of Jammu and Kashmir to the best of corporate India and providing corporate India with access to the rich talent pool available in the state.
The scheme is based on the recommendations of the Rangarajan Committee for setting up a progressive programme for training of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by the Corporate located in different states of the country and making these youth employable. During January, 2013, under a Special Industry Initiative, NSDC and the Ministry of Home Affairs have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment and skills space of Jammu and Kashmir.
Till date 63 corporates have partnered with Udaan Scheme and have given a commitment to train nearly 74,000 youth from the State. More than 6,000 candidates have joined training till date of whom more than 2,500 have been given jobs by leading corporate like Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance, CMC, Ligare, Tata Motors, Yes Bank, Canara Bank etc.
