Power Engineering Magazine announced Bushehr NPP in Iran as the Project of the Year
As noted by the journal editors, this year winner projects are those that express the trends in the world power industry – cutting-edge technologies providing for creation of the most clean and efficient energy sources. When choosing the finalists, the projects’ generating capacity and synergy effect of construction and commissioning were also taken into account.
Background:
Bushehr NPP is a unique facility that is one-of-the-kind in the world. Atomstroyexport, JSC, and its contractors succeeded in integrating Russian-made equipment into the construction part of German design, and in addition, in applying about 12 thousand tons of German-made equipment. The designer had to invent, develop and implement a whole series of original technical ideas and know-how in order to customize Russian technologies to the foreign equipment already available at the site. Unparalleled design, technological and layout solutions, as well as the whole set of unprecedented works performed at the site, all these make Bushehr NPP construction project globally unique.
Kudankulam-1 NPP is at present the largest nuclear power unit in India. Nuclear Energy Corporation of India is the project owner and plant operator. The Agreement on construction of units 1 and 2 of this NPPР with VVER-1000 reactors with generating capacity of 1000MW each is being implemented by a Russian united company NIAEP JSC – Atomstroyexport JSC and by Indian NPCIL. AES-92 design was taken as the basis for Kudankulam NPP construction. The said design fully meets the requirements of the IAEA regulations and those effective in Russia, being also certified against the EUR requirements.
