Severstal Increases Deliveries to International Automakers by 6%
OREANDA-NEWS. PAO Severstal, one of the world's leading vertically integrated steel and steel related mining companies, increased deliveries to international automakers localized in Russia and CIS by 6% or 12 thousand tonnes in 2014 versus the previous year. In total, 210 tonnes of rolled steel was shipped out to international automakers in 2014.
Dmitriy Goroshkov, Director of Marketing and Sales at Severstal's Russian Steel division, commented: "We intend to do our best to meet the highest requirements of international automakers. This refers both to development of end-to-end manufacturing (from rolled steel to finished auto parts) and improvement of order support services. This year we plan to continue homologation of our products so we can start deliveries of steel for new models produced by foreign automakers in Russia".
Among domestic steelmaking companies, Severstal is the one producing the largest range of products for automaking industry including cold-rolled, hot-rolled and hot-rolled pickled steel, over 50 brands of galvanized sheet metal as well as unique products such as higher strength cold rolled steels, bake hardening steels (BH) and dual-phase steels.
Severstal is a leading company in homologation of its products for foreign automakers localized in Russia. Currently, the company supplies products for auto brands localized in Russia and CIS such as General Motors, Hyundai-Kia, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Mefro Wheels.
In 2014 Severstal started supplies of hot-dip galvanized steel for making car face parts for Volkswagen Polo Sedan assembled at Volkswagen Group Rus in Kaluga. Also, the company was approved to supply Ford Sollers with rolled steel for 30 types of car parts used in various Ford models manufactured in Russia.
As a part of the signed agreement for the period from September 2014 to February 2015, rolled steel from Cherepovets Steel Mill is supplied for industrial projects of Renault-Nissan Alliance. Severstal's share will meet 85% of the Alliance's demand in Russia. Severstal automotive sheets will be used for such models as new Renault Logan and Renault Sandrero, as well as Nissan Almero and Nissan Terrano.
In 2014 Severstal SMC Vsevolozhsk, a joint venture of PAO Severstal and Mitsui, launched the first line for welded component production in Russia and CIS. This allowed the company to enter the market of Ultra-Light Steel Autobodies which are demanded by automakers that assemble their cars in Russia.
