TEO and Omnitel Join INTERPOL's Child Online Protection Initiative
OREANDA-NEWS. TEO and Omnitel, the companies belonging to TeliaSonera Group, joined the INTERPOL's Child Online Protection initiative and started to use the Net Clean solution, which blocks access to the websites with child sexual abuse content that are blacklisted by the international criminal police organization INTERPOL.
The Net Clean solution is exclusively a preventive measure, which redirects the traffic of the websites included in the "Worst of" list of domains to the Net Clean system and blocks its access to the networks of the Internet access providers.
Blocking of the websites included in the "Worst of" list of domains prevents the users browsing the Internet from completely inadvertent access to the websites publishing child sexual abuse content. When trying to access such websites, users will see a webpage marked with the Net Clean logo.
"While ensuring the freedom of expression and the policy of the Internet neutrality, we feel the responsibility to preventively contribute to the accessibility to, and distribution of, content recognized as harmful. Having in mind that the Internet has no borders and network operators are required to maintain the neutrality of the Internet content, it is very important that the international criminal police organization has undertaken the responsibility. We as Internet service providers do not have any influence on the collection, filtration and removal of websites with harmful content. Therefore, the restriction of child sexual abuse content online does not replace, but only complements all the other methods used by the police", - Vytautas Bučinskas, Head of Risk Management Division at TEO, says.
"Omnitel pays particular attention to child online protection. This is the reason why we joined the INTERPOL's initiative and the Net Clean solution, which functions based on internationally accepted standards. Coordinated and complex course of action is a prerequisite in the struggle against the sexual abuse of children online", - Monika Kuzminskaitė, Online Security Expert at Omnitel, said.
Before the websites are included in the "Worst of" list, they are scrutinized based on particularly strict criteria not only by the INTERPOL, but also by at least one competent authority.
This list, as one of the means of the INTERPOL to fight child sexual abuse, also helps in identifying the identities of the victims. The content, which is being analyzed by the experts in real time, is directed to the international information exchange system called ICSE, which stands for International Child Sexual Exploitation. This system helps detect and prevent the crimes being committed today.
