OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has summed up its technical development results over 2014. The company has increased the number of base stations by 15%. The 3G and 4G networks are covering territories populated by 10 mn and 1 mn people correspondently. It took the company only 4 months after the deal on creating a new federal operator to achieve outstanding results. Tele2’s key project in the 2014 technical development was a launch of high-speed wireless Internet. In November 3G-based data services became available to the operator’s subscribers in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk.

In December 2014, the 3G network was launched in Tambov and the 4G network started operations in Tula. A launch of 3G and 4G networks became possible thanks to a joint venture of Tele2 and Rostelecom. As a result of the deal, Tele2 has almost doubled the number of penetrated regions from 34 to 61. Over 2014, the company’s engineers integrated networks, continued building up new base stations and upgraded the Tele2 existing equipment. Around 80% of new base stations were built up to increase the network capacity and around 20% of them - to provide coverage on new territories. Last year Tele2 started preparing for entering Moscow Region that will continue into the second half of 2015: the company is rolling out the network, leasing the sites and negotiating with partners.

Tele2 is planning to launch it operations in the Russian capital in 2H15. In 2014, Tele2 has worked to improve the quality of signal. Thus, the company has integrated SFH (Synthesized Frequency Hopping) that helped provide higher capacity, improved the quality of connections and stability of signal. The SFH technology allows allocating a frequency range to roll out the 4G network at 1800 MHz based on the technology neutrality principle. Besides, Tele2 has issued an application to monitor the quality of mobile services called “Companion”. It automatically assesses the quality of connections and passes on all information regarding the problem to the operator. Subscribers may use this tool to test the quality of mobile services in frequently visited places: gauge data speed and a level of single in- and outdoors. Ritvars Krievs, Tele2 Russia Chief Technical Officer: “A long-year work on technical development has finally borne fruit. Tele2 shares its leadership with largest mobile operators in terms of quality and outperforms its peers in a number of regions. Our priority tasks for 2015 are a launch of the Tele2 network in Moscow and 3G/4G wider rollout as we are striving to provide high-speed wireless Internet to as many people as possible.”
