SSE employees wear hearts on their sleeves for Red February
OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2015. SSE employees are wearing their hearts on their sleeves this month, with a healthy fundraising drive for British Heart Foundation’s “Red February”.
A number of activities are planned to mark the charity’s 50th anniversary with fundraising activities matched by the company through its Be the Difference scheme.
As well as employees donning something red as part of ‘Wear it. Beat it.’, an exercise bike was set up at head office selling 15 minute slots on the bike for a small donation.
Gillian O'Reilly, Head of Heritage and Community Programmes, said: “SSE believes in promoting a healthy work/life balance for its employees.
“The aim of Red February is to improve employees’ health and fitness and to encourage healthier lifestyle options, all while raising money for an excellent cause.”
Other red-themed events taking place across SSE in February include a Valentine’s raffle, an auction and a bake sale. The Healthy Working Lives team will also be issuing advice on taking care of your heart.
Louise Parkes, Fundraising Director at the BHF, said: “Wear it. Beat it is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together in Heart Month to fight against heart and circulatory disease.
“We are extremely grateful for the support from SSE and the planned fundraising activities, by getting involved today you will be helping us to raise much-needed funds for our lifesaving research.
“Our cutting –edge programme of research is powered by your generosity and support. Every pound raised will help make a massive difference to the millions of people living with these conditions.”
