OREANDA-NEWS. February 06, 2015. The Central Bank of Ireland announced today (5 February 2015) the appointment of Gerry Cross to the role of Director, Policy and Risk.

Mr Cross joins the Central Bank from the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) where he holds the position of Managing Director, Advocacy and is head of AFME’s Brussels Office. Prior to that, he was Deputy Director, Regulatory Affairs at the Institute of International Finance in Washington. Mr Cross spent eight years in policy functions at the UK Financial Services Authority, during which period he was seconded to the European Commission for an extended period working on bank regulation. He has been Director of group credit policy at Fortis Group. A barrister by training he has practised at the Irish Bar and been a lecturer at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Gerry completed his law degree at UCD and his Master of Laws at Cambridge University before attending Kings Inns, Dublin.

In his new role Mr Cross will oversee the development and implementation of regulatory policy in relation to banking, insurance, funds, and securities and markets both domestically and internationally. Reporting to the Deputy Governor Financial Regulation, he will be part of the Central Bank’s senior leadership committee and contribute to ensuring ongoing high quality and effective regulation of the financial sector.

Announcing the appointment, Deputy Governor, Cyril Roux, said: “Gerry's breadth of experience in financial policy-making places him in very good stead to lead regulatory policy in the Central Bank at a time of broad based change.”

Gerry Cross will commence with the Central Bank on 5 May.
