OREANDA-NEWS. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) returns for an eighth year as the Official Airline Partner of the 57th GRAMMY Awards®, which will be presented live at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 8.
"Delta's longtime partnership with the GRAMMY Awards is a cornerstone of our ongoing support of the music industry," said Ranjan Goswami, Delta Vice President of Sales – West. "Delta works closely with the music community both on the ground and in the air, as we continue to cultivate strong partnerships with organizations like the GRAMMY Awards, build on our efforts to provide customers with the best entertainment options in-flight and grow our network of service to key entertainment-industry destinations."
Delta will host a private performance from two-time GRAMMY nominee Charli XCX at the airline's 5th annual pre-GRAMMY event on Feb. 5. Delta is a leader in bringing music to customers during travel through Delta Studio, the airline's industry-leading suite of onboard entertainment options, including thousands of songs, the latest movies, live satellite TV, HBO, SHOWTIME and games. Launched in 2014, Delta Studio provides free onboard entertainment via seat-back entertainment systems or on-demand streaming onboard Delta's Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft. Delta offers more in-flight Wi-Fi than any other carrier, with access to the service on all two-class domestic aircraft and more than 30 percent of its long-haul international fleet, which will be completely Wi-Fi-enabled in 2016.
The music of emerging artists and short-form content creators is delivered to more than 10 million customers per month through Delta Artist Spotlight, a music discovery platform launched in Summer 2014. The monthly program introduces new music to passengers through the in-flight entertainment audio channel as well as offering content selections for aircraft equipped with seat-back entertainment systems. British singer-songwriter Ella Henderson was featured in January, and Charli XCX will be highlighted this month.
From Los Angeles, Delta currently operates 154 peak-day departures to 48 destinations, including top music and entertainment destinations like Atlanta, Austin, Nashville and Seattle. Delta also operates eight daily transcontinental flights between Los Angeles and New York – JFK. Delta offers twice-daily service to London-Heathrow with joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic; a third daily flight will be added next month. Last month, the airline announced plans to begin daily nonstop service to Shanghai in July. And earlier this week, Delta shared plans to introduce mainline Boeing 717 aircraft on eight of its 15 daily West Coast Shuttle flights between Los Angeles International and San Francisco International airports in June (with the remaining flights operated by Delta Connection carrier Compass Airlines).
At the airport, Delta travelers passing through Los Angeles continue to enjoy the benefits of the \\$229 million expansion and enhancement of Terminal 5 at LAX, scheduled for completion in May 2015.
